ResponseWare FAQs


Student RW FAQs

ResponseWare will work with the following mobile devices:

  • Any newer web browser on a laptop computer
  • Android Device
  • Blackberry Smartphone
  • iPhone
  • iPod Touch
  • iPad

Students are able to register a ResponseWare license by following the steps below.

  1. Go to http://www.rwpoll.com/register
  2. Fill out all fields including the license code found on the ResponseWare card and click the Continue button.
    DO NOT CHECK THE BOX:  I have not purchased a license, but would still like to create an account.

  3. A verification window will appear indicating your account has been created and the license expiration date. Note your Device ID in case your professor requires you to register it for a course in Classes*v2.  Instructions here.

Once a ResponseWare license has been registered, participants can access a session in one of many ways including:

  • Web
  • iPhone or iPad
  • Android Device
  • Blackberry

ResponseWare will work with most up-to-date browsers on Mac, Windows and Linux that support AJAX, JavaScript and HTTP requests. Follow the steps below to access a ResponseWare session in a browser.

To access a ResponseWare session go to http://rwpoll.com and follow the steps below.

  1. Enter the Session ID provided  by your professor and click the “Join Session” button.
  2. Login with your email address and password on the Login screen (created when registering your license code).
  3. Enter optional first and last name on the Welcome screen.
  4. Wait for a polling question from your instructor.

When a poll is presented by your instructor, select a corresponding answer from webpage keypad.

The results will display on the page once polling is closed.

  The web page will indicate when the polling session has been closed.

The free ResponseWare app for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded from the iTunes Store (search “ResponseWare”).

Once installed, enter your account information in the appropriate fields following the steps below.

  2. Enter your account information with the User Name and Password on the Account Info screen (created when registering your license code).
  3. Enter optional first and last name on the User Information screen.

The free ResponseWare app for BlackBerry devices is designed to work with version 4.2 or higher and can be downloaded from the following links depending upon your carrier.

From your BlackBerry device, click the icon to install the ResponseWare app.

Once installed, enter your account information in the appropriate fields following the steps below.

  1. Enter the Session ID provided by your professor.
  2. Enter your account information with the User Name and Password on the Account Info screen (created when registering your license code).
  3. Enter optional first and last name on the User Information screen.
  4. When instructed by your professor, click the “Join” button to connect to an active polling session.

    1. To register your ResponseWare ID for a course in classes*v2, find the eight-digit ID found on the ResponseWare Account Info web page (http://rwpoll.com), or on the ResponseWare smartphone app of your device.

    1. In Classes*v2 select the Clicker Registration link under the Tool Menu column and enter the eight-digit ResponseWare ID into the Clicker ID field  (in lieu of a clicker ID). Click the Register button to save the ID.*
*Note that only letters up to F can be entered; no letter Os.
If an incorrect ID is entered, an error message will appear and you will need to re-enter the ID.
    1. After successfully entering the ResponseWare device ID, the device ID (in blue) will appear on the page.  Note that the device ID can be edited at any time by clicking the blue ID number.

Faculty RW FAQs

In order for instructors to incorporate ResponseWare into either TurningPoint or TurningPoint Anywhere polling software, first, an account needs to be created, and then a session ID that participants will select when polling with a mobile device. Below are the steps to do so.

  1. Contact ITG at itgyale.edu to have a participant account created using your Yale email address.
  2. Once the account has been created, an automated email will be sent containing directions to complete the registration process.*
  3. Go to http://rwpoll.com and click the Login to your ResponseWare account link.

  4. Enter your email address and assigned password found in the automated email and click the Login button.

  5. On the next window click the Your Account link in the upper right-hand corner.

  6. Click the Change your Password link on the next window.

  7. Enter the current password (from the automated email) and a new password in the appropriate fields.  Click the Change button to save.  A verification window will appear; click the Continue button.

  8. Click the Home link in the bottom left-hand corner to return to the home window.

  9. Once your account information has been updated, a Session ID will need to be created in order for your class participants to join a ResponseWare session.  More information found can be found in the ResponseWare FAQs for faculty under “How do I Create or Change a Session ID?”

* If an account creation email is not received, check to see it was not filtered into a SPAM or Junk mailbox. If still unsuccessful in locating the email, visit http://www.rwpoll.com, click the “Login” link, and the “Forgot Password?” link on the next window. An email will be sent with instruction on resetting your password.

In order for students to join a ResponseWare session, a Session ID will need to be created. The following steps explain how to create or change a ResponseWare Session ID.

  1. Go to http://rwpoll.com and click the Login to your ResponseWare account link.  Login with your ResponseWare email address and password.

  2. Click the Reserve or change your session ID link.

  3. Enter a Session ID that your ResponseWare participants will use to access your polling sessions and click the OK button (it is recommended your Session ID corresponds to your course number).  Click the Continue button when the verification window appears.

  4. Once your ResponseWare account and Session ID have been saved, configure the ResponseWare settings in either TurningPoint or TurningPoint Anywhere applications.  More information found can be found in the ResponseWare FAQs for faculty under “How do I Enable a ResponseWare Session in TurningPoint?”
  1. Within TurningPoint click the Tools menu and select ResponseWare.

    Alternatively, you can launch ResponseWare from a Polling Bar during a presentation by clicking the world icon and selecting “Enable ResponseWare” from the menu.

  2. Enter the fields accordingly opting to check the “Save Information” box for future ResponseWare sessions.  Click the Login button.

  3. A verification window will appear with your session ID.  Click the Close button to hide the window.

  4. Begin your PowerPoint presentation as normal.

 

Note:  You will need to start your ResponseWare session before each class.
